Dress Codes for Competition Practice/Rehearsals

REMINDER ABOUT REHEARSALS AS OUTLINED IN THE TEAM AGREEMENT:
All black: pure black, with no words, stripes, colored mesh, dots, etc.
No sleeves, no pants. Shorts need to be form fitting and short enough to see long leg lines.

For Women’s Work and tap dances this year, dress code is all black t-shirts and pants/leggings with the boots or tap shoes they will be wearing for that dance.

Hair that is long enough needs to be pulled into low ponytails, sleek and tight with NO WISPIES. Use gel/spray please. Dancers shouldn’t have to push their hair out of their eyes constantly throughout their routine. Shorter hair can just be pinned/braided back enough so it’s not in the face. No accessories like barrettes, beads that cause distractions/noise/damage when it slaps them in the face while doing turns.

NO hanging jewelry or bracelets/scrunchies on wrists/etc.

Food/Snacks
For practices longer than 3 hours they may bring CLEAN, non-messy, healthy snacks that are nut/sesame/egg free!
Always bring a water bottle!

Footloose

We have been learning a lot of the tap steps and phrases that will be in the Footloose dance over the last few weeks in our weekly tap classes. We have videos up on the parent portal so the kids can be practicing. That way when we finally get to start having rehearsals to piece it altogether, we already have the main steps and phrases down and it will be just a matter of filling in the formations and transitions.
EVERYTHING we are working on in their tap classes needs to be treated as potential FOOTLOOSE choreo and they need to be working on their tap steps at home until we begin actual rehearsals for that dance.

Once all our main group dances are choreographed, each of the routines will start having smaller sessions more often for cleaning and preparing for competition.

Most of our routines will have their first competition in April so we have time to get them cleaned and ready but ALL dancers are still expected to have open availability leading up to comp season without a ton of prior engagements for me to try to work around. Remember, if scheduling becomes a constant difficulty with a dancer, they may have to be pulled from routines or team altogether and those factors of availability this year may have an effect on casting decisions going into future seasons.

Team Rehearsal calendar is available on our studio website and can also be seen on your parent portal under Manage Students and then ‘My Weekly Schedule.’

NOTE ON CLASS ABSENCES/WEEKEND CLASSES:

PARENTS must tell me in ADVANCE when a dancer must miss their weekly required classes with the REASON. Reasons include illness, severe injury, family emergency, highly important family event.
I should not have to text and ask where a dancer is after I notice they are absent.Older dancers who miss their required classes should attend weekend classes as makeups IN ADDITION to the amount they are already required to attend each month. If we already have a short month (like December ) dancers need to not be missing any classes as we only get the few weeks to begin with before their bodies won’t be doing much for the whole winter break.Dancers who are required to attend one weekend a month: This means ALL THE CLASSES ON THAT MORNING, not just one or two. All dancers coming to the weekend classes need to be at the studio at the start time of the first class! Also, parents are supposed to be registering their dancer as drop-ins for the weekend classes on parent portal. Even if you are on the Full Class Pass you still need to register for attendance purposes.

BIG/LITTLE SISTER/BROTHER PARTNERS

I love doing this as it gives a sense of team bonding, gives our little ones someone special to look up to and our older ones hold their heads a little higher knowing they are inspiring someone younger!

TEAM Jackets:

Everyone who doesn’t have a PURPLE ESPRIT jacket, must have one for team.

Pants/bags are optional.

Any of the past styles are FINE! (varsity/windbreaker/the newest style from last season). If you need one, we will place the order form on the parent portals. THESE will not be here in time for Christmas this year since we are doing the orders a little later.ALSO: If you have any teamwear that you have outgrown and would like to pass down to a younger team member, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME! We have a chart on the parent portal with all our team members and their sizes they would wear in jackets and pants/shoes etc. This chart also has everyone’s phone numbers so parents can call the parent of a child who would wear the size they want to pass down and connect with them. I would really love to start this as a trend for the future years of the studio, passing down jackets and pants. We can easily have the jacket names removed and re-embroidered with new names at a fraction of the cost of a whole new jacket. You can choose to simply pass things down in gratitude and know those blessings will return to you in the future, or you can choose to “sell” your items to younger team members. If you receive a jacket that has been passed down, you will just need to pay to have the name changed.More info on prices and such will be on the order form in your portal.

Upcoming Fees and Fundraisers

Costume Fees:

We will have more information on which specific routine each dancer will be in for recital as well as their specific costume fees and due dates for team soon.Competition Fees:

As we get closer to time, invoices will start coming to you for competition fees, these need to be paid on time.

Recital Fee:

Team recital fees are due later than the rest of the studio (April 1st) and are $150 per family.

SHOES/HAIR/MAKEUP/ETC:
As we get closer to time, information for everything you need for each routine will be posted on portal. Please keep up with these things so your dancer has everything they need.

Fundraisers:

Liz Morrisey is volunteering to be in charge of fundraisers this year and Christie also helps coordinate them as well. I don’t feel like this is the year/moment to expect many people to be able to help us out with fundraisers, but we will still try to do them throughout the season. If you’re really in need of some help with comp fees, I suggest setting up Go Fund Me’s within your social circles because they are known to really work! Get your family involved in your child’s dance life so they see WHY they should help out! We will keep everyone updated on more fundraising opportunities as they get set up.
