💄 Recital Hair & Makeup Guidelines (All Ages)
To ensure all dancers look polished, confident, and visible on stage, stage hair and makeup are required for ALL performers—regardless of age or gender. Stage lighting can wash out facial features, so makeup that may look “too much” in person is actually what helps dancers shine on stage and in photos.
💋 Makeup Requirements
All dancers (including our youngest pre-dancers) must wear stage makeup.
For Girls:
Lip color is SUPER STAY MATTE INK® LIQUID LIPSTICK in Pioneer or Dancer color, or equivalent for all female dancers. We recommend a long-lasting lip stain versus a lipstick.
- Foundation (to even out skin tone)
- Blush (natural pink or peach tones)
- Neutral/nude eyeshadow
- Black mascara
- Black eyeliner
- False lashes (recommended for best stage visibility)
👉 Important: Makeup should be applied heavier than everyday wear. It may look dramatic up close, but it is necessary for the stage.
For Boys:
- Light foundation (optional but recommended)
- Blush (to add color and definition)
- Nude lip gloss or lipstick
👉 Goal: Define facial features so expressions are visible under stage lights.
💇♀️ Hair Requirements (All Dancers)
- Center part
- Low, slicked-back bun
- NO bun donuts or hair helpers
Styling Tips:
- Start with damp or wet hair
- Use a generous amount of gel to fully slick hair back
- Secure tightly with elastics and pins
- Finish with hairspray for hold
👉 The goal is a clean, uniform, and secure look that will last through the entire performance.
✨ Final Notes
- These guidelines apply to all ages and all classes
- Consistency across dancers helps create a professional and cohesive performance
- When in doubt—more makeup and more gel is better for stage!
For girls: foundation, natural-looking pink/peachy pink blush, neutral/nude shade eyeshadow, black mascara and eyeliner/false lashes.
